§ 2Summary

§2G2.1 (sexually exploiting a minor by production of sexual material) was the primary guideline in 4,919 cases sentenced across 8 fiscal years (FY2018–FY2025), 0.9% of all cases, with 799 in FY2025. The Commission classes most of them as sex abuse.

The median prison term under §2G2.1 was 260 months (21 yr 8 mo) (all cases nationally: 24 months); 100% of cases carried a prison term.

36% of sentences were within the guideline range. Of the rest, 31% were below the range on a government motion, 31% below it for other reasons and 2% above it. The departure and variance table below uses the Commission's nine SENTRNGE categories.

FY2025 had more cases than FY2018 (799 against 455). The median prison term in FY2025 (276 months) was longer than in FY2018 (240 months).
