Corrections

District Sentencing aggregates the Commission's datafiles without editorial changes to the underlying values. Differences between this site and the Commission's published tables usually come from definitions: which sentence variable is used, whether probation cases are in the denominator, how life sentences are counted. The methodology lists every choice.

Errors in the Commission's records

The Commission compiles its datafiles from the sentencing documents courts send it. Questions about how a case or a district was coded belong to the Commission's Office of Research and Data (datafiles page). Changes the Commission makes appear here when the affected year's snapshot is next refreshed.

Errors introduced by this site

If a figure here does not follow from the datafile and the stated method (a district attached to the wrong circuit, a mis-labelled offence type, a broken comparison, a median that does not match a recomputation), write to the address on the contact page with the page URL and the expected value. Processing errors are fixed in the code and the site is rebuilt; expect a reply within five working days.

Suppression and identification

No group with fewer than 10 cases is shown, and no page concerns a case, a sentenced person or a judge. If any page appears to identify one, report the URL; the page will be withdrawn at the next build while the suppression rule is tightened.
